Sydney is a great city. It is the oldest and one of the largest and most popular cities of Australia. The port with the famous Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House determine the face of the city. The ferries from Circular Quay take you to popular sites on the outskirts of the city as Bondi and Manly Beach. Inland lie the popular Blue Mountains.
The Rocks and Circular Quay, The oldest part of Sydney
The Rocks are just outside the city center, right under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Rocks is the oldest part of the city; was once a fort here, there were taverns, brothels and was the landing place for ships from Europe. Although much has been demolished, the area still has its historic street pattern and there are still many buildings from the early 19th century. It is now a lively district with shops, galleries and pubs. From The Rocks, you have a beautiful view of the Opera House and the Bay, Sydney Cove.
Circular Quay
In this place where Philip governor hoisted the British flag in 1788, are now the ferries and cruise ships and you stand on the square for The Sydney Opera House.
Darling Harbour, cozy waterfront
In the lively area around Darling Harbour are regularly held festivals. In addition to the Sydney Exhibition Centre here also the Maritime Museum, the massive Sydney Aquarium, find an IMAX theater, the Chinese Garden of Friendship and a surprising zoo. Around the harbor are many restaurants and cafes.

This huge zoo on the north side of Sydney Harbour is a great day out for both children and adults. In the zoo you can see besides the usual animals also many typical Australian animals such as koalas, kangaroos, platypus, wombats, emus, The Tasmanian Devil, reptiles and more. The best way to visit the Zoo is by ferry from the dock at Circular Quay.
