brief history

Melbourne was founded in 1835 after John Batman, a farmer, had exchanged the ground with local Aborinals. The concept of the (re) buying and owning land was otherwise completely unknown to the Aborigines.

20 years later was found in Victoria gold and the people of Melbourne grew rapidly. Now Melbourne is the second largest city in Australia and has an important port, industrial and large service sector.
