Most residents of South Australia live in the capital Adelaide. The northern part of the state lies in the outback and is dry and arid. However, the southern part along the coast is green and fertile and is world famous for its fine wines.

The main sights and attractions are within walking distance of Adelaide's compact city center. Most shops and restaurants can be found around the Rundle Mall. At Central Market, there is a market and there are (cheaper) cafes and restaurants.

Along the North Terrace
The main museums and galleries of Adelaide you'll find along the North Terrace, a broad thoroughfare on the north side of downtown. Here are among others the National Wine Centre, the Botanical Gardens, the South Australian Museum, Migration Museum, Parliament House and the main railway station of the city.

Port Adelaide
Outside the center, toward the coast, Port Adelaide. Every Sunday there is a market and there are some nice attractions for kids (and adults) like the National Railway Museum, the Aviation Museum and dolphin excursions.

Glenelg
On December 28, 1836 Glenelg was the first settlement of South Australia when Captain John Hindmarsh landed on the beach at Glenelg. Today, the beach is a popular excursion among the inhabitants of Adelaide. The old tram City to Bay takes you from the city to the beach. Adelaide Airport is the main airport of the city and is located 8 km west of the center of Adelaide. For transportation to the city you can undertake use a shuttle bus or taxi. Of course you can find also the major car rental companies at the airport.
