New Zealand is located in the Pacific Ocean, 1600 km east of Australia. New Zealand consists of two main islands and several smaller uninhabited islands. The main islands are the North Island and the South Island, separated by the Cook Strait. The South Island is slightly larger than the North Island while the North Island has more inhabitants. This is partly because the capital Wellington and the largest city in the country, Auckland, are both located on the North Island.

New Zealand is a country of contrasts. You have the subtropical north and south the cool, wet west and the drier east. In New Zealand you can also find volcanoes, mountains and glaciers.
