Cape Verde Islands (Cape Verde) (Portuguese: Cabo Verde English Cape Verde) is a group of islands and land forms in Atlantic (Africa). The Cape Verde Islands are independent of Portugal since 1975 and consists of two parts. Northern Barlavento archipelago consists mainly of the islands Santo Antao, Sao Vicente, Santa Luzia, São Nicolau, Sal and Boa Vista. The southern archipelago Sotavento consists mainly of the islands of Santiago, Maio, Fogo and Brava. The capital of the Cape Verde Islands in Praia, on the island of Santiago. The Cape Verde islands are mostly mountainous and created by volcanoes. There is also found an active volcano called "Pico de Fogo", which has a height of up to 2,800 meters.
