Perth, capital of Western Australia state
Capital Perth is the largest and most important city of Western Australia. Because of its remote location on the Swan River, Perth is perhaps the most isolated metropolis in the world. But thanks to the good connections and facililities the city is a good starting point to explore Western Australia or as a starting point for a single journey to Broome and Darwin.

Despite the fact that Perth is a city of millions, Perth has a compact and well-organized center. Most shops and entertainment venues can be found in the area around Hay- and Murray Street.
Modern high-rise buildings, interspersed with some historical buildings from the last century, obscure the view of Perth. Swan river bisects the city. On the banks are parks and boulevards landscaped. The seaside resorts Cottesloe, Scarborough Beach and City Beach and the port of Fremantle are at the ocean at about 15 to 20 km from the center and are nice places for a day trip.

After a long journey it is good to stand for several days and use this time to explore Perth and its surroundings. The city has a practical public transport network, so even without a car you can make lots of fun excursions.
Fremantle
Historic port town
About 20 kilometers outside Perth is Fremantle. The historic port city with its Victorian buildings located at the mouth of the Swan River to the Indian Ocean. Besides the port, the Fremantle prison is a popular attraction. The building was built by prisoners and was used until 1886 for deportations from England. Until 1991 the building was used as a normal prison.
The Maritime Museum at the harbor shows alongside HMS Ovens submarine and other vessels also shipwrecks like the Dutch Batavia (of which a replica was built in Lelystad years ago) and ship the Duyfken which reached Australia in 1606.
Rottnest Island
Visiting the quokkas
20 kilometers off the coast of Fremantle is Wadjenup, known as Rottnest Island. The Dutch who came here in 1696 on land, thought the quokkas were rats and so they named the island. In reality it is a pleasant island with beautiful beaches in the bays. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, you can surf fine, diving and snorkeling.
The quokkas are otherwise still be seen on the island.

Perth founded in 1829. From this period remain numerous colonial buildings. But long before the Europeans came to Australia, the area around Perth was inhabited by Aborigines.

The wildlife park is a nice place to see native animals up close. Most of the more than 2,000 animals coming from Australia itself.

Fly to Perth
Perth Airport is a half hour drive out of town. There are separate terminals for domestic (domestic) and international flights. A bus runs between the two terminals. For transportation to the city you can undertake use a shuttle bus or taxi. Of course you can find also the major car rental companies at the airport.
Perth by train
Perth Railway Station is located in the city center on Wellington Street. Besides some trains connect the suburbs with the center, you from Perth also allows the train to Bunburry in the south (with The Australind), Kalgoorlie (The Prospector), or further east with the famous Indian Pacific's longest railway in the world without bends towards Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Perth bus
Perth itself is a good public transport network. In the city it is even partially free. Greyhound maintains long-distance bus services in Western Australia.
