Thailand (Thai: ประเทศไทย) is a country in Asia which borders Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia. The capital of Thailand is Bangkok. A number of major cities in Thailand are Phuket, Pattaya, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai and Pattani. Around the mainland are still many islands, including Phuket, Koh Samui and Koh Chang are the greatest.

The highest point of Thailand is the Doi Inthanon at an altitude of 2590 meters. Further inland you can find more caves, waterfalls and many rice fields. Thai cuisine is famous for its rice and fish dishes. The population mostly lives off tourism and agriculture. In 2004, a tsunami put an end to the lives of about 5,000 inhabitants.
