Morocco
In three hours you fly to a world full of snake charmers, water sellers and countless street stalls. George Orwell wintered there, The Stones were smoking there stickies, Yves Saint Laurent had a villa and Winston Churchill called Marrakech "the sweetest place on earth".
Our idea: first wander a few days in the city for the sights of Marrakech. Explore the souks, palaces and smelly tanneries. Gaze at lavishly decorated decorated mosques. Every time you end up back on the Djemaa-el-Fna square, the irresistible cauldron where Marrakech about.
Sahara
Then book - which may be fine on the spot - an excursion to the Sahara, through the rugged Atlas Mountains and various kashbahs (fortified and walled settlements). Then rinse the sand off of you in coastal town of Essaouira, known for its unadulterated hippie atmosphere. Finish weather in Marrakech, for typical souvenirs (slippers, lanterns, spices) in store for home.
In short, a dream vacation.
And then this ...
• Night to remember: Dar Nadir, a clogged deep in the medina fairytale riad with hammam, lap pool, patio and terrace.
• To lick your fingers: Okay, it's touristy and pricey, but Dar Yacout restaurant is an experience. After a cocktail beforehand, on the roof of an old palace, a seven-course meal on the patio follows.
• Yet rain? Cross the largely covered Souk Smarine and Souk el-Kebir on the way to the ancient Koranic school Ben Youssef Madrassa: See here all the decorations and you are a morning or afternoon sweet.
