Federated States of Micronesia, called either FSM, is a country located in Oceania. FSM is a part of the sub-region Micronesia, one of the large group of islands in the Pacific Ocean. The country consists of four states, namely Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae. The country covers approximately 607 small islands in the Pacific Ocean. The capital of the Federated States of Micronesia is Palikir with 5,771 inhabitants, the largest city is Kolonia with 5,095 inhabitants, and these towns are both located on Pohnpei. The land covers about 702 square kilometers and has a total of 107 434 people.

History
Around 2000 BC, the ancestors of Micronesians settled in Micronesia, where a more decentralized system developed into a more centralized economic and religious empire.
